The jagged pinnacles of Teewinot Mountain reveal themselves in the morning sunlight as a veil of snow-laden clouds swirls in the mountain’s wake. With its knife-edge faces and towering spires of ice-sculpted granite, Teewinot is among the most recognizable peaks in the Teton range. Derived from the Shoshone word for “many pinnacles”, the name Teewinot was used to describe the entire Teton range for tens of thousands of years before European influence. Today Teewinot is most commonly used to describe the single peak which makes up the “Cathedral Group” alongside the Grand Teton and the cluster of the range’s highest alpine summits.
